About the Role

We are seeking a process‑driven, proactive People Team Manager to run the day‑to‑day operations of the People Team. Reporting to the Head of People, you’ll act as the “engine room” of the department—owning your own projects while coordinating and prioritizing the team’s work so nothing falls through the cracks. You’ll make sure our core People processes are consistent, efficient, compliant, and employee‑centric, and you’ll play a key role in shaping how policies, programs, and day‑to‑day support show up for our 425+ remote team members.

Compensation This position offers between $95,000-$105,000 depending on qualifications, skills and experience.

Primary Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Policy Development & Implementation: Partner with the Head of People to draft, update, and roll out People policies and procedures. Ensure the Employee Handbook is a "living document" that reflects our culture while maintaining legal rigor.
  • Performance Management:  In conjunction with the Head of People, support the design and execution of annual and mid-year review cycles, while assisting with employee performance and disciplinary matters to ensure fairness, consistency, and legal compliance.
  • Total Employee Lifecycle: Directly manage the team responsible for daily People operations—from recruiting to offboarding—serving as the primary lead for process execution. You will ensure consistent delivery across all stages of the employee journey while proactively identifying opportunities to modernize, automate, and scale our workflows to support a rapidly growing workforce.
  • Compliance & Legal: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws. Help the organization stay ahead of changing regulations in all states where we operate, proposing proactive solutions and adjustments before issues arise.
  • Payroll & Benefits Oversight:  Manage the payroll process to ensure accurate, timely bi‑weekly payroll. Play an active role in the annual benefits renewal and lead the open enrollment cycle. Serve as the subject matter expert in both payroll and FMG’s benefit plans.
  • Compensation Management: Support proactive compensation by helping maintain our structured job architecture and using HR systems to keep data current, accurate, and aligned with market benchmarks.
  • Cross Team Partnership: Cross‑functionally with Legal, Finance, Accounting, and other teams as needed to align on policies, controls, and people‑related decisions and ensure smooth end‑to‑end execution.
  • Engagement & Culture: Partner with the team to design, launch, and manage programs and events that drive employee engagement and reinforce company culture, ensuring these initiatives are sustainable and impactful as the organization grows.
  • M&A Support: Support the Head of People in M&A activity by supporting the integration of new employee groups, working towards a seamless transition through tailored onboarding and the effective implementation of People policies for the incoming workforce.
  • Access to a private & secure workspace, free from distractions
  • Accessible during the assigned work schedule for regular duties and responsibilities as outlined by the supervisor
  • An internet connection with speeds of 5 Megabits down / 3 Megabits up (5mbps/3mbps)

This role is a great fit if you’re detail-obsessed, thrive while wearing multiple hats, and able to juggle competing priorities without breaking a sweat. You are someone who can pivot quickly when business needs and decisions shift, but you don't just follow a script—you can see the end‑to‑end workflow and look for ways to make it better.

You’re likely the right fit if you:

  • Own outcomes, not just tasks: You care about getting to the right result and making things work smoothly for the business.
  • Are a builder at heart: You like creating structure where things are ambiguous or evolving.
  • Have a “no task too small” mindset: You’re just as comfortable coaching a teammate as you are diving into the weeds on a tricky payroll or compliance issue.
  • Thrive in a high‑velocity environment: You enjoy the pace of a PE‑backed company and see it as a chance to make a real, visible impact.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience: 5–8 years of HR experience, with at least 2+ years in a management role. Experience in a PE-backed or rapidly scaling organization is preferred.
  • Certification: SHRM-CP/PHR preferred
  • Soft Skills: High attention to detail; can seamlessly move between day-to-day operational tasks and higher‑level policy work. You take initiative to keep work moving forward and are able to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Sheets, Slides, Docs, etc.) and experienced with HRIS platforms, with a strong preference for Paylocity.

At FMG, we believe in the wholehearted acceptance of each other regardless of our differences. We strive to foster an environment that allows everyone to contribute to our mission in their unique ways. With the belief that diversity propels innovation, we are continually finding ways to cultivate a commitment to inclusion in our employees, services, and products, as well as in the communities in which we live and work.

We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer committed to providing employment opportunities regardless of sex, race, creed, color, gender, religion, marital status, domestic partner status, age, national origin or ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical condition, sexual orientation, pregnancy, military or veteran status, and genetic information.  If you require accommodation to complete the application or interview process, please contact [email protected].
