About the Role

FMG is investing in the Platform Engineering function that will shape how our engineering organization builds software over the next several years. We are hiring a Director of Platform Engineering to own the architecture of our developer experience — the tooling standards, AI harness, deployment pipelines, and governance model that determines how our engineers work. This role is the foundation for an AI-native engineering organization.

You will report to the SVP of Engineering and lead a growing cross-platform team. This is an omniplatform role across all flagship brands. You will be a peer to our product-line Engineering Directors and partner closely with Product, IT, and executive leadership to oversee all SaaS platforms and evolve them toward the AI era, including AI platforming and an AI SDLC.

Our ideal candidate is a technical leader who has built platform engineering functions from the ground up, operates at the intersection of infrastructure, developer tooling, and reliability engineering, and is energized by the transition to AI-native software development. You are equally comfortable writing technical strategy for the board and jumping into a CI/CD pipeline to solve a problem.

Compensation This position offers $175,000/per year.

Primary Responsibilities & Expectations

Platform Architecture & Developer Experience

  • Own and evolve the developer experience across all product engineering teams: tooling standards, AI harness integration, deployment pipelines, and governance model
  • Define and enforce platform engineering standards that enable engineering teams to ship faster and at a higher quality bar
  • Drive adoption of AI-native SDLC practices across the organization, partnering with engineering managers to measure and improve development velocity
  • Lead architectural decisions for shared platform infrastructure, including observability, deployment, and API standards

Team Leadership

  • Build and lead the Platform Engineering team, including a Senior Platform Engineer and SRE/DevOps Lead
  • Develop engineering talent and establish the culture of the platform function — reliability, craftsmanship, automation-first thinking
  • Represent Platform Engineering in cross-functional forums with Product, IT, and executive leadership
  • Partner with the SVP and Head of Engineering on long-term technology strategy

Reliability & Operations

  • Own the reliability posture of the platform: uptime SLOs, on-call frameworks, incident response standards, and postmortem culture
  • Establish telemetry, observability, and alerting standards across all product lines (DataDog, CloudWatch, PagerDuty)
  • Collaborate with IT on the clean boundary between Engineering-owned reliability functions and IT-owned cloud infrastructure, security, and governance
Innovation
  • Evaluate and champion new tooling, frameworks, and practices that improve engineering productivity
  • Be an active participant in FMG's AI engineering transformation — from agentic development tools to AI-assisted QA and testing
  • Serve as a technical thought partner to the SVP and Head of Engineering on platform bets, M&A technical diligence, and architecture direction

Skills and Qualifications

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in platform engineering, DevOps, or SRE leadership roles
  • Demonstrated experience building or scaling a platform engineering function — from establishing standards through growing a team
  • Strong command of cloud infrastructure (AWS primary, GCP secondary), CI/CD pipelines, and modern deployment practices
  • Hands-on experience with observability tooling (DataDog, CloudWatch, PagerDuty, or equivalent)
  • Experience leading and developing engineering teams — hiring, mentoring, and setting technical direction
  • Strong communicator — comfortable translating platform strategy for non-technical audiences and making the case for investment
  • Proven track record of shipping: you hold teams accountable for delivery and know how to unblock them
  • Access to a private & secure workspace, free from distractions
  • Accessible during the assigned work schedule for regular duties and responsibilities as outlined by the supervisor
  • An internet connection with speeds of 5 Megabits down / 3 Megabits up (5mbps/3mbps)
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Experience at a PE-backed or high-growth SaaS company
  • Familiarity with multi-product or multi-brand engineering environments
  • Hands-on experience with AI-native development tooling, agentic SDLC, or AI-assisted engineering workflows
  • Background in or familiarity with wealth management, financial services, or regulated industry software
  • Experience with MCP (Model Context Protocol), API platform design, or developer platform strategy
  • Familiarity with GitHub Actions, Terraform or IaC tooling, and container orchestration (ECS, EKS)
  • Experience running or contributing to an engineering M&A integration
